On Friday 23rd September Don Wijsmuller and his partner
Hilary Houze will join a team of thirty who will take part in a
Kilimanjaro charity challenge to raise funds for the charity
Fighting Blindness.
The charity is close to Don's heart as a close friend, Tom Brown
suffers from a condition called Ushers Syndrome, for which there is
no cure. Tom has suffered the loss of his hearing due to the
illness and he also suffers from Retinosa Pigmentosa another
symptom of this condition, which will sadly ultimately result in
blindness.
Both Tom and his brother Davey suffer from this hereditary
condition and they will both be taking part in this challenge with
the assistance of a guide.
Don's fundraising target is £5000 and to date has achieved
around 25%. A huge boost to the fund has been £1000 raised by the
Whitmill team from activities such as charity lunches, auctions,
cake sales and 'dress down' days. Delighted with their efforts Don
challenged the team to double the amount raised to £2000 and if
they managed to do so pledged to complete the trek wearing a kilt -
so far the team are on target and Don is dusting down his
sporran!

cause can do so by logging onto http://www.mycharity.ie/event/dgw_kilichallenge
