This month Jersey based Whitmill Trust Company Limited has been
awarded Level Two accreditation of the ECO-Active Business
programme. The locally tailored environmental scheme which is run
by the States of Jersey aims to encourage local organisations to
consider the impact of their business on the environment.
By completing both the first and second levels of the scheme,
Whitmill has committed to a programme of actions to minimize the
organisation's impacts upon the environment.
Key aspects targeted within Whitmill's action plan include
reducing its energy and water consumption, a focus on recycling and
waste management, adopting more environmentally friendly
procurement procedures along with educating its 27 Jersey based
employees about the business's overall environmental impact.
Tina Parker, Project Manager at Whitmill has appointed in the
role of 'ECO-Active Business Champion' and will be responsible for
coordinating the firm's newly introduced initiatives.
"Becoming more environmentally aware and operating in an ethical
and sustainable way is becoming more and more important" said
Frederick Deacon Director of Whitmill. "We recognise our
responsibility to consider the impact on the environment within our
business operation. The ECO-Active Business scheme provides a
logical step by step approach to working towards this and we're
delighted to have gained the level 2 accreditation."
The scheme is built on the principles of quality, excellence and
continuous improvement and provides guidance for businesses to
assess and improve their overall environmental impact.
Tina Parker commented "Our offices on The Esplanade in St Helier
are relatively new and as such, we already benefit from some modern
'green' technologies such as energy efficient lighting and water
saving devices. However the exercise of putting together a plan and
involving all employees in the process has been an interesting one.
We are looking forward to introducing new initiatives to meet our
stated objectives and continuously monitoring our
progress."
